The Universal company's repertoire was very much made up of popular favourites, but with the depths of the depression still being felt around the country these singers must have been glad of the work. Perhaps the most notable veterans here are Harrison Frewin and Olive Westwood, whose careers went back to Moody-Manners in Edwardian times.
The two week season began with Carmen on the Monday, followed by this Trovatore.
