Trovatore 1936Universal Grand Opera Company

Read more about the opera Trovatore

The Universal company's repertoire was very much made up of popular favourites, but with the depths of the depression still being felt around the country these singers must have been glad of the work. Perhaps the most notable veterans here are Harrison Frewin and Olive Westwood, whose careers went back to Moody-Manners in Edwardian times.

The two week season began with Carmen on the Monday, followed by this Trovatore.

Cast details are from a programme for the two nights in the A M Gardiner Collection at the Mitchell Library.
