Lucia di Lammermoor 1973Scottish Opera

Read more about the opera Lucia di Lammermoor

This staging of Lucia had opened in the autumn of 1971, and was now on the last leg of its second tour. This was also the last tour by the Opera For All format that had so usefully introduced opera to outlying regions of the country. The other two works in the repertoire, both new to the company, were Rigoletto and Count Ory. As in previous years, the early part of the tour, before Christmas, had covered Scotland, so now the company headed south as far as Cheshire in the west, before returning through Yorkshire and the northeast.

The two new stagings were given with significantly greater frequency than the old one. From January to March the Lucia tour dates (eight in all) were 11 Jan (Falkirk), 16 Jan (Stranraer), 26 Jan (Knutsford), 31 Jan (Todmorden), 3 Feb (Carlisle), 16 Feb (Newton Aycliffe); 28 Feb (South Shields), 3 March (Stanley).

Cast details are from the Richard Telfer collection in Scottish Opera's archive.
