Glasgow was always fertile ground for the Carl Rosa company, and they gave considerably more performances there than in the other Scottish cities.
This team featured performances in short but prominent roles by two veteran baritones, Appleton Moore and Hubert Dunkerley. The Czech exile Otakar Kraus became an important member of the Covent Garden company as well as a highly accomplished teacher.
A review in the Scotsman (15 April) states "Gaby Valle and Otakar Krauss brought just the requisite credibility of gesture and appearance to their performances of Tosca and Scarpia respectively. They both sang with complete control and a sure dramatic sense, and the result was satisfying and exciting."
Cast details are from a programme for Monday, 12 May, in the Gardiner Collection (Mitchell Library). This also relates to the following evening's Carmen.
