The Glasgow Herald's review (13 June) stated the work had lost none of its popularity... shown by the familiar Carl Rosa production in the King's Theatre, Glasgow, last night, when "applause seldom had the courtesy to await orchestral conclusions."

"Charles Craig's Rudolf, probably the most convincing bit of playing, was ably assisted by his fellow artists, in a vocally robust exposition of a Bohemian way of life with its care-free humour, and its pathos.

''A busy staging and full-toned orchestral playing- that keft one with the impression that the orchestra's potential had not yet been realised."
