A short review appeared in the Glasgow Herald (14 June).
"Although the Carl Rosa's programme at the King's Theatre, Glasgow, this week is a particularly heavy one, and must be straining their resources to the limit, a high standard of performance is being maintained. Last night they gave a most enjoyable account of Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann.
''In Joyce Goodwin they had one who in voice and manner could deliniate the three diverse rles of the Doll Olympia, the tragic Antonia, and the brilliant Giulietta. George Chitty as Hoffmann made a convincing figure although he did not always succeed in conveying the poet's tenderness and ardency. Pauline Allen gave a neat study of his admonitory companion Nicklausse.
''The malignant characters of Coppelius, Dr Miracle, and Captain Deportutto - the frustrating elements in Hoffman's amorous adventures - were splendidly brought out in the dark sonorous voice of Arthur Wallington.
''Arthur Hammond conducted.''

Week commencing 10 June: Mon Carmen; Tue Cav & Pag; Wed Bohème; Thu Hoffmann; Fri Benvenuto Cellini; Sat m Barber of Seville; Sat e Trovatore.
Week commencing 17 June: Mon Don Giovanni; Tue Rigoletto; Wed Tannhäuser; Thu Manon Lescaut; Fri Barber of Seville; Sat m Carmen; Sat e Faust.
Given twice were Barber of Seville and Carmen, with one performance each for Cav & Pag and the other nine operas.
