A short review of this matinée in the Scotsman (6 April) was appended to a review of the evening performance of Rigoletto.

"At the afternoon performance, Tannhauser was produced in excellent style to a crowded house.  Mr Julius Walther's Tannhauser was in every respect a fine performance; a special interest attached to the Elisabeth, owing to the part being taken by Miss Grace Nicoll, an Edinburgh singer, who is steadily advancing in her profession.  The Wolfram of Mr Dillon Shallard, the Landgrave of Mr Arthur Winckworth, and the Venus of Miss Amy Rolda, were of high merit, and the minor characters and the chorus acquitted themselves well."

It was generally believed that the employment of young singers for performances near their home not only avoided subsistence costs, but also encouraged sales of tickets to friends and relatives.

The company's 1908 tour included two weeks at the Glasgow Grand, one at the Alexandra, Greenock and finally two at Edinburgh King’s Theatre.
