Just four years after introducing the Requiem to Scotland the Glasgow Choral Union were doing it again. The only change among the soloists was the absence of Charles Santley, whose voice had been judged last time to be in decline. In his place came a new bass, Daniel Price.
Once again, there was a curtain-raiser, an apparently rather lugubrious cantata by Gounod, called Gallia.
