Glasgow Choral Union and its orchestra had already given two performances of Verdi's Requiem setting by the time this Edinburgh group got in on the act. The orchestra is nameless, simply 'a large local band with Mr James Winram as first violin'. The only significant name among the soloists is the soprano, Alice Esty, a leading performer with Carl Rosa around the turn of the century.
