The City of Glasgow Chorus here chose Beethoven's highly challenging late masterpiece as the vehicle to celebrate the choir's 25th anniversary. They are one of the groups that collaborates regularly with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, and that band could always be relied upon to give an excellent account of a work that they can only experience rarely.
Under Graham Taylor's direction, the Chorus could always be relied on to select an interesting team of soloists. In this case, Jane Irwin, was a recent exponent of Wagner and Tippett with Scottish Opera, Jeni Bern and Justin Lavender had not been seen with Scottish Opera for some time. Paul Keohone was a promising young bass.
