The closing concert of the Edinburgh Festival is always a showcase for the Festival Chorus. 2018 was no exception. What made it special was that this was the final concert for which the Chorus was trained by Christopher Bell. He was off to work in the USA, very much our loss. He has been a superb asset for Scottish musical life over many years, especially as a trainer of choirs and an enthusiastic conductor of RSNO Christman concerts.
Mahler's 8th Symphony is, along with Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, which they did in 2016. a big spectacular, ideal for such an occasion.
