Shortly before the premiere of the Sea Symphony, Vaughan Williams spent time studying with Ravel. How interesting, then, to have this archetypally English piece performed under the guidance of a French conductor. There is no doubt about the quality of the two solo vocalists.

The concert began with orchestral Wagner - Preludes to Acts 1 and 3 of Tristan, plus the Liebestod.
