This performance of the Brahms was unusual in having the RSNO on the platform with the Dundee Choral Union - clearly the period leading up to the choir's 150th anniversary meant they had more money available, allowing them to push the boat out.
To make up the complete programme two highly appropriate shorter choral masterpieces began the concert - Parry's beautiful setting of Milton's ode Blest Pair of Sirens was followed by another Brahms piece, the Schiksalslied (Song of Destiny).
Alan Watt was an excellent Scottish baritone with a fine operatic pedigree, far less known for concert work and not previously seen in Dundee. The young soprano Sarah-Jane Dale gave a lovely sweet-toned account of her solo.
