A rare hearing of the complete symphony. So often the purely orchestral chunks including the balcony scene are played on their own, and very good they are, no doubt. But the whole work, including choral excerpts and three short solos, is so much more effective, if distinctly weird. These three singers are excellent, and Ticciati and his SCO forces have been building up an excellent series of Berlioz performances.
A highly worthwhile Festival event.
