One stimulating feature of the music programme of the 2006 Edinburgh Festival, the last to be curated by Brian McMaster, was a series of concerts called Masterworks. They fitted into the programme as a group of short concerts, with three items in an evening. All the Beethoven symphonies were played at 5pm. This performance of Mahler's Song of the Earth was one of a series of concerts at 7.30. Later in the evening a Bruckner symphony could be heard.
These two singers were steadily gaining in reputation, and clearly ready for exposure in this event.
