A contemporary operatic gem by Jonathan Dove with libretto by Alasdair Middleton based on Jane
Austen's novel. Mansfield Park presents a portrait of privileged domesticity. It invites us to observe both the rigorous mores of intimate family life and the brasher destructive menace of social over-exposure. The production by Tania Holland Williams considers the implications of a 21st century update.
The opera was commissioned by Heritage Opera as a chamber work for performance in various buildings of appropriately stately style, and received its highly successful Scottish premiere by Edinburgh Studio Opera at Edinburgh Academy as part of the 2016 Fringe.
Running time 2h including interval.
