Beethoven's 9th is performed often enough by the various Scottish orchestras and choruses. However it hasn't featured at the Festival for a while. This performance includes four soloists who are as good as could be found anywhere today, and they are all established British stars.
The Venezuelan orchestra is one of three with Edinburgh residences this year. It will be good to hear them, particularly as their long-running 'Sistema' scheme at home has been the inspiration for Scotland's own wonderful 'Big Noise' training enterprises that are changing young lives around the country. Festival Director Nicola Benedetti has been one of the greatest inspirations behind this success.
