Dundee Choral Union first performed choruses from the Messiah in June 1860. This was repeated in January 1861, now including the Hallelujah Chorus for the first time. Choral Union records show that this is the sixtieth performance, fifty-two of which appear to be given complete.
There was a time when Messiah was performed every year, in December. More recently the repertoire had expanded significantly, with a consequent reduction in performance of the standards.
James Cleverton enjoyed a significant carer, working with most of the British companies.
