Billed as The Devil Went Down to Paisley, this version of Gounod's classic is given a distinctly local twist with the use of Paisley dialect. Some characters have their names adjusted appropriately, so Siébel becomes Stephen while Wagner becomes Rob.
The orchestra of Scottish Opera did not exist last time the national company mounted the piece (as long ago as 1966), and Gounod's lush orchestration benefits from having such an excellent band. Professional performances in Scotland are now very rare.
The producers are Simon Hannigan and Douglas Nairne.
The community chorus is joined by international soloists, the Orchestra of Scottish Opera and right2dance
