Frank Martin's interesting treatment of the Tristan legend was mounted in Glasgow at the Conservatoire when it received its Scottish premiere, and a second look will be quite justified.
As usual, the Byre Opera forces will be conducted by Michael Downes. Perhaps it is slightly churlish to suggest that the director is of even greater interest. Kally Lloyd-Jones directed that student production back in 2017 and made an excellent case for the piece. It will be good to see how her ideas have developed.
It will be sung in English, with a cast combining local talent with guest professionals.
