O'Mara Opera was founded by the great dramatic tenor Joseph O'Mara in 1912. Up to that point he had been a leading member of the Moody-Manners company. After their retirement he set up on his own, performing a similar range of repertoire. He continued to tour Britain throughout the war years and for some time after. Although O'Mara himself retired in 1926, dying the following year, appearances of the company are recorded in Scotland as late as 1937.
