David Fieldsend Suggest updates

Born Barnsley.

English tenor.

David Fieldsend studied in London at the Guildhall, gaining a scholarship in 1967 and leaving with the Gold Medal.  He worked with Opera Rara and made his acclaimed Wexford Festival debut as Vanya in David Pountney's 1972 production of Kátya Kabanová, repeating the part at the following year's York Festival.

Scottish Opera

He joined Scottish Opera for five seasons, singing over twenty roles in a wide range of styles. During that period he also toured with the company to Germany, Portugal and Poland, appearing as Prologue in The Turn of the Screw and Toni in Elegy for Young Lovers.

Other

Fieldsend sang leading roles with Travelling Opera, Chelsea Opera Group, Cambridge University Opera, Dorset Opera, Buxton Festival Opera and Opera North.

He first appeared at Covent Garden in 1983 in Der Rosenkavalier.

Fieldsend also had a successful career in operetta, singing major roles with the new D'Oyly Carte and Carl Rosa organizations, including Ralph Rackstraw, Nanki-Poo, Colonel Fairfax and Marco Palmieri.
