Maria Caradori Suggest updates

Maria Caterina Rosalbina de Munck, later Maria Caradori-Allan.

Born Casa Palatina, Milan, 1800.

Died Surbiton, Surrey, 15 October, 1865.

Alsatian soprano.

Maria Caradori had an important career, largely spent in the UK.  Caradori was her mother's maiden name.

Caradori's debut, in London, was in 1822 and thereafter until 1827. The international phase of her career included the Théâtre-Italien in Paris, La Scala in Milan and the Fenice in Venice, where she created the role of Giulietta in Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi (1830).

After several seasons on the continent, Caradori resumed her British career in 1834.

At her peak, she sang a wide range of leading dramatic roles, including Donna Anna, Leonore, Agathe, Norma and Lucrezia Borgia.

Later, having had a busy career of nearly forty years, Caradori added mezzo parts, sometimes in those operas with which she was already familiar.
