After the Glasgow opening, to give 20 performances of a Janáček opera with piano accompaniment in places where his music was completely unfamiliar, was no doubt a highly enterprising, if risky, idea. The risk paid off handsomely and the company had a great success on its hands. Since then The Makropulos Case and Kátya Kabanová have also been widely toured.
