On paper, this concert performance of Clemenza was extremely appetising, with Harry Bicket rapidly coming to prominence as a leading exponent of the Baroque. The announced cast was led by Lorraine Hunt Lieberson (Sesto) and Ian Bostridge (Tito), They both withdrew, and their replacements were uneasy in such important parts on this occasion. Magdalena Kozená's interpretation was wonderfully transformed when she repeated the role in 2005.
