The Dundee choir was led by Charles Cowe, a renowned disciplinarian and vocal trainer, over some three decades. The orchestra, now the RSNO was then, as now, Scotland's leading symphony orchestra.
The quartet of soloists displayed here contained some of the best singers in the country at this time, even if they were, for the most part, not likely to be encountered often on the opera stage. Three of them (the exception being the tenor, Percy Manchster) were among the sixteen soloists chosen to be immortalised as the creators of the wonderful Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music, commissioned to celebrate Sir Henry Wood's birthday in 1938.
