The Scotsman's review (10 April) said that if the performance was not an unqualified success in respect of vocal beauty, "every one of the leading characters.... had some effective moments, and the main climaxes of dramatic passion and musical beauty in the third and fourth acts decided the success with a crowded and most appreciative audience."
The full Trovatore cast is taken from a programme for 17 April in Aberdeen City Library. Ferrando had been the solo debut role for Harold Blackburn the previous year, and he continued to sing it all through his career, with performances for ENO at the Coliseum thirty years later.
The Carl Rosa 1948 tour involved two weeks in Edinburgh, then one in Aberdeen and four Glasgow; seven weeks of seven performances each week. The repertoire consisted of works by Rossini (Barber of Seville); Verdi (Trovatore, Traviata); Puccini (Bohème, Tosca, Butterfly) and Bizet (Carmen)
