Neeme Järvi was renowned for the rousing nature of the performances he led during his years at the SNO. These forces would certainly have provided plenty of excitement. In retrospect it perhaps seems odd that he didn't do more Berlioz with them, but then he was constantly introducing the orchestra to unknown repertoire.
The solo quartet is impressive, and by this time Ann Murray was well-established on her major international career, and never sang staged opera in Scotland again.
