The performance was notable for the conducting of John Barbirolli.  According to the Scotsman (5 April) 'The famous conductor of the Scottish Orchestra obtained a fine performance of the orchestral score, and had a well-deserved ovation.'

It was still a long-established practice for the part of Rosina to be taken by a light soprano. It is only since the appearance of coloratura contraltos such as Conchita Supervia (at precisely this mid-30s period) that the role has been returned to the more authentic lower voice type.

The opera was followed by a ballet to music from Borodin's Prince Igor, which Mr Ivan Clayton conducted.

 

The Scottish itinerary was one week in Edinburgh followed by two in Glasgow:
