The Scotsman (1 March) reviewed Cav and Pag, and also the performance on 4 March, noting cast changes.
"It is often the case that matinees withness the reproduction of operas which have obtained favour during the week. this was not the case on Saturday at the King's Theatre. There were two operas on the programme which appeared for the first time during the engagement - Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. A wet afternoon and the counter-attraction of an international football match (Scotland beat England 3:1 at Celtic Park) did not seriously affect the attendance, for, apart from some vacancies in the dress circle, the theatre was well filled, and the house were thoroughly appreciative. Mr Edward Davies, Mr Hebden Foster and Madame Marie Alexander figured with much distinction in the exposition of Rustic Chivalry, while Pagliacci was carried through with great fervour by Mr Foster, Mr Charles Victor, and Miss Beatrice Miranda, the last-named of whom sang admirably notwithstanding the cold from which she was suffering. At the close there was a display of enthusiasm which necessitated the appearance of the leading performers again and again."
The company's Scottish performances in 1909 involved one week at the Alexandria, Greenock, one week at the New Gaiety, Ayr followed by two at Edinburgh's King's Theatre and two at the Glasgow Grand.
