A review of a performance
Cast details are taken from a review of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci in the Scotsman (26 February). The reviewer said both operas 'received excellent renderings'.
"In both there seemed to be a greater vigour and fire than usual, and the performance did great credit to the conductor, Mr Henriquz de la Fuente, who has this week proved himself a most valuable acquisition to the company."
Pagliacci "furnished excellent opportunities for Mr William Wegener as Canio. It was a very dramatic piece of work, and an advance on his nevertheless excellent Tannhauser of earlier in the week. The Nedda of Beatrice Miranda was a worthy companion study, and the Tonio of Mr Hebden Foster, the Silvio of Mr Frank Clarke and the Beppo of Mr Reginald Gordon completed the picture in a satisfactory fashion."
