This Saturday evening in the Caird Hall was unusual because the RSNO did not usually bring a serious choral masterpiece to Dundee during its Proms season.
Here we were, with Mozart's Requiem following on from the Overture to Don Giovanni and the Symphony no 25 in G minor, K183. The excellent conductor, Stephen Clarke, was appearing with the RSNO for the first time, but had just completed several years as Head of Music with Scottish Opera. He had conducted a wide range of repertoire with them.
Of the soloists, Jonathan Best was perhaps most familiar from his appearances with Scottish Opera, and Peter Wedd had also worked with that company. None of the quartet had worked in Dundee before.
Further dates in the other cities to be confirmed.
