Conductor Neil Mantle explined in his note that he was going to attempt a middle course between the once-fashionble huge forces and the more recent 'authentic' idea.  The huge Caird Hall can, of course, cope with anything.

Bass Ross McInroy had recently trained at the Academy in Glasgow and would have a significant solo career in Scotland, including with Scottish Opera.  He eventually settled in Leeds, working for many years with Opera North.
