Edinburgh Grand Opera

Edinburgh Grand Opera is the oldest surviving opera company in Scotland, making its debut with a performance of Bizet's Carmen in 1955.  The Diamond Jubilee was celebrated in 2015 as a modern and forward-looking organisation, performing a variety of lively operatic productions in major Edinburgh theatres.

One of the company's principal objectives is the identification and development of vocal talent. They can offer exciting opportunities to talented young singers emerging from Scotland's first-class undergraduate and post-graduate music colleges.  The aim is to provide them with crucial performance experience in major principal roles outside the academic environment, as well as an opportunity to work with a highly experienced team of professional musical and artisitc directors.  They also work closely with Queen Margaret University to provide placements for students of stage management and costume design.

A number of well known opera singers have been nurtured by Edinburgh Grand Opera in their youth, among them three of the company's current patrons, Ian Storey, Donald Maxwell and Frances McCafferty.
