Walter van Noorden Suggest updates

Died Halifax, 14 April 1916.

English conductor and manager.

Walter van Noorden came from a musical family of Dutch extraction.  He was originally intended for the Law, but music took precedence and he studied at the Guildhall School of Music under Lindsay Sloper, Thomas Wingham and Frances Davenport.

He first joined the D'Oyly Carte company as conductor. He then joined the Carl Rosa company, also as conductor, before (c1900) being appointed also as the company's managing director, a post he held until his death.
