Born South Shields.
English bass.
David Morrison studied in Newcastle with Dr J E Hutchinson (teacher of Kathleen Ferrier), and in Glasgow at the RSAMD with Neilson Taylor. His early career in housing management was combined and extensive amateur and semi-professional activity in opera and oratorio. During this period he sang several major roles. Appearances include Northern Opera (four baritone roles in Tales of Hoffmann) and Durham University (Wotan in Die Walküre). Other roles were Creon (Medea), Colline (La bohème), Matt of the Mint (The Beggar's Opera), King (Aïda) and Ford (Sir John in Love).
After joining the Scottish Opera Chorus he played a multitude of short roles during a quarter-century of activity, continuing to work with the company regularly after the professional chorus was disbanded. One major part he was able to perform as an understudy was Kecal in The Bartered Bride.
