Gianni Schicchi 2002Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD)
The enterprising triple-bill of Stravinsky and Vaughan Williams was completed by this beautifully paced staging of Schicchi, which, thankfully, was not played too outrageously. While the excellent young baritone playing the title-role gave a suitably extrovert performance, and no-one was upstaged. The elegant production, set around the era of composition, worked effectively - surprisingly so.
