The Carl Rosa on tour maintained a long-upheld tradition by concluding their week in Edinburgh with an indelible popular favourite, played complete with ballet.
Of the Edinburgh performance, the Scotsman critic (25 March) said "one has memories of rather perfunctory late-night performances of Faust in the past. The perfunctory, however, does not exist for the Carl Rosa management, and Saturday night's performance of Gounod's opera reflected care in every detail."
According to the Scotsman review (28 March) of the Glasgow performance, 'The evening seemed to be as much enjoyed by the players as by the audience, the elan and freshness which they imparted into their work being very agreeable indeed.' A programme giving full cast for the performance at Glasgow's Kings Theatre is preserved in the archives of the National Library of Scotland.
