This charming piano-accompanied staging of Martha, the only production Scottish Opera ever did of the old favourite, had been touring the country since the autumn of 1969, and here came to the end of the road with a couple of performances on the extremely intimate postage-stamp stage at Ledlanet. Alexander Morrison, Moyra Paterson, Peter Lyon and Norman White had been with the production all that time, but several new singers had joined up along with the new pianist.
Itinerary includes: 26 Jun & 1 Jul (Ledlanet). Further dates to be confirmed.
The Ledlanet summer season included a week-long residency by Scottish Opera for All - piano-accompanied stagings of La traviata, Martha and Cinderella, as well as Ledlanet's own production of Telemann's Pimpinone coupled with Monteverdi's Ballo delle Ingrate. There was also an oratorio performance - Haydn's Creation. The Autumn schedule included another double bill - Pergolesi's Serva Padrona paired with Dido and Aeneas.
