According to the Scotsman (11 April) Benett Fynn "a young tenor of distinct promise, made a decided impression as Alfred.

But the star was Joan Hammond, who displayed "brilliant singing instinct with feeling, joined to fine acting. Singers who can act as well as Miss Hammond are not often encountered."

According to the Edinburgh Evening News (14 April) "Its popularity was proved last night..there was a large audience, and the enjoyment with whhich they followed the brilliant presentation of the opera was reflected by their enthusiastic applause at the close of every act."

Kingsley Lark was among the others who distinguished themselves.

As far as Scotland was concerned, the 1942 Carl Rosa season consisted of three weeks in Glasgow, followed by two in Edinburgh. Crowded houses were reported, evidenced in part by the Wednesday matinees.
