The reviewer commented on the conductiong of Erik Chisholm (new to the Carl Rosa Company) "While his scale of effect ws at times perhaps a little more suggestive of the concert-room than of the theatre, he gave a sound, musicianly rendering of the opera, and there was a careful attention to detail.

"As Faust, Tudor Davies sang throughout with a fine art. Kingsley Lark's Mephistopheles departs somewhat from tradition, and in doing so gains in sinister effect. There was a charming Marguerite, Ruth Packer..."

As far as Scotland was concerned, the 1942 Carl Rosa season consisted of three weeks in Glasgow, followed by two in Edinburgh. Crowded houses were reported, evidenced in part by the Wednesday matinees.
