The Glasgow Herald review (5 Mar) said "The Carl Rosa Company played to packed houses on Saturday. All forms of entertainment are being liberally patronised, and opera is having its full share of support. The Carl Rosa Company has never done better business in Glasgow. On saturday afternoon, the twin operas, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci, were received with enthusiasm. The Santuzza of Miss Ida Carton was more noteworthy for clever acting than for convincing singing, but on the whole it was Miss Carton's best appearance with the company. Mr Hughes Macklin was excellent as Turridu, and the smaller parts filled by Mr Frank Clarke and Misses Taylor and Wilson were more or less acceptable. Both operas were skilfully conducted by Henriques de la Fuente."
The Scotsman reviewer (13 March) explained both works (Cav and Pag) "made a wide appeal, and last night they were performed to a full house".
"Miss Ida Carton gave an excellent rendering of the part of Santuzza, and her voice was heard to fine advantage in the beautioful Easter hymn. Mr Edward Davies was distinctly successful as Turridu, Mr Frank Clarke made a striking Alfio, and Miss Dorothy Lawson Taylor did justive to the music of the faithless Lola."
"Chorus and orchestra rose well to the high level of the soloists and the audience insisted on the usual repetitiion of the famouse intermezzo."
