The Glasgow Herald review (5 Mar) said "The Carl Rosa Company plyed to packed houses on saturday. All forms of entertainment are being liberally patronised, and opera is having its full share of support. The Carl Rosa Company has never done better business in Glasgow. On Saturday afternoon, the twin operas, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci, were received with enthusiasm. The Santuzza of Miss Ida Carton was more noteworthy for clever acting than for convincing singing, but on the whole it was Miss Carton's best appearance with the company. Mr Hughes Macklin was excellent as Turridu, and the smaller parts filled by Mr Frank Clarke and Misses Taylor and Wilson were more or less acceptable. Both operas were skilfully conducted by Henriques de la Fuente."
The Scotsman reviewer (13 March) explained both works (Cav and Pag) "made a wide appeal, and last night they were performed to a full house".

Miss Beatrice Miranda played and sang the part of the fickle Nedda with power and perception. mr hughes Macklin mad the most of the varied moods of the showman. Me Hebden Foster, as the clown, gave a dramatic renderiong of the prologue.; and the Silvio of Mr Frank Clarke and the Beppe of Mr Frank Enright were well done... At the close of the performance all the players were enthusiastically called in front of the curtain.
