The first revival of this happy production was, if anything, more pleasurable than the original, with an ideal balance between the four principals. The young conductor Richard Farnes led things off sweetly from the pit. Lisa Milne, Giannetta in the first run, was now promoted to Adina, and she and Barry Banks made a well-matched pair of lovers. Donato Di Stefano was a perfectly disreputable and seedy Dulcamara, while Simon Thorpe just avoided over-exaggeration as Belcore.
