Bass-baritone.
Frederick Clendon spent many years with the Carl Rosa company. It is clear that there were several parts, not necessarily long ones, clearly regarded as ''his'' roles, and which he sang again and again - Papageno in The Magic Flute, Page in Merry Wives of Windsor, Monterone in Rigoletto, Ferrando in Trovatore, Dancairo in Carmen, the Herald in Lohengrin. and later on Beckmesser in Mastersingers. In Tannhäuser he seems to have sung both Biterolf and the Landgrave with equal facility. The range was huge.
