St Andrews Opera have announced their project for 2012. Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin will be sung in a modern English translation by David Lloyd-Jones. The project has two components - a 'workshop' semi-staged production of a shortened version of the piece, directed by Ella Ormerod and performed with a piano accompaniment by Walter Blair. The entire cast for this phase of the project will be drawn from singers based in or near St Andrews. Later in the year, a fully staged production will be given in St Andrews and then London, directed by Kally Lloyd-Jones. This will be a joint production with a London-based university opera group, Bloomsbury Opera. The performances in the Byre will be conducted by Michael Downes, those at Goodenough College, London by Jessica Cottis. Keep an eye on our website for further details.
