You have one last chance to see Scottish Opera’s classic production. The last three performances are at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh on Sunday 22nd November at 4pm, and on Thursday 26th November and Saturday 28th November at 7.15pm. This revival of Giles Havergal’s 1994 production attracted great reviews all round
Michael Tumelty (Herald)
“Giles Havergal must have thought he had died and gone to heaven when the new cast for his second revival of Donizetti’s opera, The Elixir of Love, dropped on him… Havergal’s genius in the production, picked up by this lovely cast, is his humanity and his understatement.
Richard Morrison (The Times)
....the rustic characters seem to step straight from the idealised rural idyll of a 19th century landscape painting….scintillating singing from the two lovers….‘una furtiva lagrima’ is done with a rare gracefulness rather than showboating histrionics.
Kenneth Walton (Scotsman)
The charm in Giles Havergal’s revived production….lies in its simplicity.
