The Elephant Angel

Posted 23 Sep 2012

Scottish Opera's heart-warming new opera by composer Gareth Williams and acclaimed novelist Bernard MacLaverty goes on tour.  In the midst of a city, in the midst of a war, an enduring friendship is formed between a young elephant named Sheila and her keeper.  As the bombs begin to fall and the Head Zookeeper worries about the fate of her animals, the local children play and laugh and sing in the Belfast streets.  Each performance of the Elephant Angel involves around sixty local schoolchildren; some working with Scottish Opera's experts to market and run the performances, and the others forming a chorus of thirty.  Check our listings for more information.
