This summer BP are again sponsoring free live relays of opera from the Royal Opera House across the UK. You can see Madam Butterfly on Monday July 4th at Duthie Park in Aberdeen and Festival Square in Edinburgh. The relay starts at 7.30pm with curtain down at approximately 10.15. We are promised a UK-wide 'hum-along' to the 'humming chorus' at 7pm (this broadcast is to be shown at twenty venues across the UK).
Also you can experience Cendrillon (Massenet's version of Cinderella and rarely performed) in Festival Square, Edinburgh on 13th July. It is a quiet time of year for opera in Scotland - opera buffs are thinking forward to the Festival and considering the cost of tickets. Thanks to the sponsors, BP, these performances are free - what's not to like?
