Recently OperaScotland heard from Dean Cahill, based in Sapcote near Leicester. He was looking for a 'good home' for papers concerning the international tenor William Boland.
We were delighted as we wanted to learn more about Boland, who performed many times in Scotland with different companies. Following a visit, we have now been given some fascinating cuttings, programmes and photos for our archive. It will take us quite some time to check out all the leads.
Have a look at the first portraits we've scanned and posted in Boland's profile here.
In our efforts to capture details of performance and casting we have for some time been building an archive of vintage opera programmes, playbills, posters and other memorabilia. We would love to hear from you if you have any old material you think we might find useful. Sadly such material generally has historic rather than commercial value and so tends to get binned, sent for recycling, or otherwise lost to posterity. We hate to think of all the social history that even now gets thrown away. Please let us know if you come across any historic material of this nature.
In the meantime, Dean, thanks very much!
